Our 2 week vacation started with a long drive to my mom's house in northwest Alabama. We are lucky that she happens to live half way between here and Greg's parents. The following day, we headed up to Columbus. While we were there we took the kids to the Franklin County Fair and discovered Lexi shares my love of thrill rides. She loved the Scrambler! We rode it over and over until we both had bruises from being thrown around. She screamed so much I seriously thought she wouldn't be able to talk afterwards. We also visited the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. That was a long day! It is huge, so it took 7 hours to see everything. Ben enjoyed it much more than the Houston Zoo. I'm sure the significantly cooler temperatures had a lot to do with it. Greg's uncle that we had no seen in 11 years came up to visit and we also got have lunch with Brian, Greg's best friend from college. We intended to take the kids on a walking tour of the Ohio State campus, but it rained too much. They got the driving tour instead and both promptly fell asleep.
The following Saturday we headed down to the Smoky Mountains. It rained there a lot too, but we were able to do almost everything we intended to. We walked around Gatlinburg, took a drive down to Cades Coves, and ate too much (fudge to be exact). Greg and Lexi enjoyed their first white water rafting trip. I think Lexi got a little anxious beforehand. She got really quiet and wouldn't talk at all. We will definitely be rafting again as soon as Ben is big enough. On the way home we spent another night with my mom and finally arrived home after driving 2800+ miles in 13 days. The kids made the trip fine and yes, it can be done without a DVD player.
I do have pictures to post and I will, but our AC went out last night and with the computer running it's a bit HOT in here!
Oh, and stayed tuned. My next post will be.....um, surprising.
